While waiting for help or if the cut is a minor one you can try to stop the bleeding by applying a clean towel and an even, firm pressure to the wound. For minor wounds, once the bleeding has stopped, wash the wound with soap and water, apply an antibiotic cream and dress the wound with a sterile gauze pad. The dressing should be changed daily unless it becomes wet or soiled.
